Sleeper Train to Penzance

Okay, so I just got back from a little jaunt down to Penzance, that lovely Cornish town at the very tip of England, and I’ve gotta tell you, the whole experience was way more enjoyable than I’d even hoped. Now, getting to Cornwall can sometimes feel like a bit of a trek, right? You’ve got the long drive, which, let’s be honest, can be a bit of a slog, or you’re cramming onto a plane for a quick hop, which, while fast, isn’t always the most relaxing way to start a holiday.

But this time, I decided to do things a little differently. I opted for the sleeper train, and honestly, it was a game-changer! Imagine this: you hop on the train in London in the evening, all cozy and ready to relax. You’ve got your own little cabin – think of it as your own little hotel room on wheels – and you settle in for the night.

Now, I’ll admit, I was a tiny bit worried about actually sleeping on a train. I’m not usually the best sleeper, but the gentle rocking motion? It’s surprisingly soothing! Before you know it, you’re drifting off, and you wake up the next morning, pulling into Penzance, with the Cornish air fresh and salty, ready for adventure.

And Penzance itself? What a treat! It’s got that classic Cornish charm, with its picturesque harbour, colourful houses, and a really relaxed vibe. You can wander along the seafront, grab some delicious fish and chips, and just soak up the atmosphere. And of course, you’re in the perfect spot to explore all the amazing things that Cornwall has to offer – St Michael’s Mount, the stunning coastline, all those cute little villages.

But back to the train – it really does make the whole journey part of the holiday, not just a way to get from A to B. There’s something really special about waking up to those beautiful Cornish views, knowing you’ve arrived refreshed and ready to go, without having spent hours stuck in traffic or dealing with airport queues.

The cabins, while compact, have everything you need. You’ve got a comfy bed, a little sink for freshening up, and all the basics. And there’s something kind of romantic about it all, you know? It feels like a bit of an adventure, like you’re stepping back in time to a more glamorous era of travel.

So, yeah, if you’re thinking of heading down to Penzance, or anywhere in Cornwall, I’d definitely recommend considering the sleeper train. It’s a relaxing, enjoyable, and really unique way to travel, and it makes arriving at your destination feel like a real treat. Two thumbs up from me!
